Bangladesh HC confers awards to British-Bangladeshi

Live Correspondent:A�Bangladesh High Commission in London has conferred awards to the British-Bangladeshi students who have achieved outstanding results in the 2017 GCSE and A Level examinations on Saturday.

A total of 103 students who achieved at least 10 A/A* in GCSE and 3 A/A* received crests and certificates in a function at the Kensington Town in Central London, according to a message received here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh High Commissioner to United Kingdom Md Nazmul Kawnain said that for the 12th year, the High Commission organised the event to recognise the academic excellence of the British-Bangladeshi students who have made Bangladesh proud and elevated the image of Bangladesh community in the UK.

He hoped that these young boys and girls will lead in their respective fields in future and their success would inspire the succeeding generations of the diaspora for even better achievements. He urged the students to maintain close links with their lineage and nurture their cultural background.

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the UK Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict attended the function as the Chief Guest.

The Lord Howell of Guildford PC, Chair of the International Relations Committee of House of Lords, Paul Scully MP Vice-Chair of All-Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh, Jean Lambert MEP and Abdul Gaffar Choudhury, prolific writer, journalist, columnist, political analyst and poet and Life Time Achievement Award Winner of the High Commission were present as the Special Guests.

A cultural programme was also held to showcase the rich heritage of Bangladesh. About 500 people attended the ceremony.
