Notably, BNP was allowed to hold a rally for the first time in nearly two and a half years and they used it to raise their voice for their party chief’s release.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of BNP, presided over the rally. Most of the senior leaders of the party attended the rally and used a truck as a temporary podium. Shibli Noman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Motijheel division, said, “BNP has been given permission to hold rally conditionally.”
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police allowed the BNP to hold a ‘peaceful rally’ from 2pm to 5pm on a 23-point condition.
On July 15, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference announced that the party will hold a protest rally demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia and her proper treatment.
