Next elections will be impartial: Quader

Live Correspondent: Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader assured BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that the next general election will be impartial and there is no reason of fear regarding the polls.

“In future, elections will be held as impartial and peaceful like Rangpur City Corporation and the government will not interfere in the matter,” Quader said today in a blanket distribution ceremony held at Mofizar Rahman Degree College ground of erstwhile enclave Garati under Sadar upazila in Panchagarh as the chief guest.

The Relief and Social Welfare sub-committee of the central committee of Awami League organised the event.

Quader said, “We have accepted the results of Rangpur City Corporation elections. None could raise allegation of government interference. As the boat tides have started all over the country, Mirza Fakhrul is in fear of losing in the next elections.”

“We could go back after distributing blankets among cold-stricken people in urban areas. But, we have come to remote areas as per the direction of our party leader,” he said, adding that AL never does politics taking peoples’ suffering as an issue.

“BNP always does politics with the sufferings of common people—They (BNP) will come for public show and return after photo sessions. But, we have come with blankets to give those to the cold-hit people as they are in miseries,” Quader said.

“Only words cannot bring success in election. AL will seek votes from common people by showing its works,” Quader said, adding that AL does not believe in the politics of words while BNP does so.

Joint General Secretary of AL Jahangir Kabir Nanak MP, its Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP, Organising Secretary Dr BM Mozammel Haque MP, Nazmul Haque Prodhan MP, Md Nurul Islam MP, Selina Jahan MP, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, General Secretary of district AL and Panchagarh Sadar upazila chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat and district Chhatra League President Akhteruzzaman were present.

Later, Quader distributed blankets among cold-hit people at another function held at Boda Pilot High School ground in Boda upazila in Panchagarh before leaving for Thakurgaon this afternoon for the same purpose.
